The Ministry of Home Affairs and Urban Affairs on Wednesday launched a new website called Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs) aimed at providing affordable housing to urban migrants and the poor. Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that vacant houses constructed by the government would be used for the scheme and many facilities would be provided to public / private entities to build houses on their vacant land at cheap rent.

A letter of interest has also been issued to include private companies in the Affordable Rental Housing Scheme. In his presentation, Minister Hardip Singh Puri said that many concessions would be given under the rental housing scheme, which would allow the FAR to be increased up to 50 per cent without incurring any additional fees. The project will also be given a loan at an affordable interest rate

"This is a big step towards the success of the rental housing scheme," Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in a statement. The government has launched a special website for the scheme. In addition EoI has been issued to private companies to participate. With this he said that an affordable renting house will be built on a large scale. Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that freeing big cities from slums and illegal constructions is a priority of the central government.

Students will also be able to take advantage of the Affordable Rental Housing Scheme. Under this affordable rental housing scheme funded by the Central Government, houses will be provided for various categories at Rs. 1 to 3 thousand per month.

The Affordable Renting Housing Scheme launched under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban will provide respectable and affordable housing to the urban migrants and the poor. The scheme will also benefit migrants working with industrial and construction workers, market associations, educational and health institutions, the hospitality sector, long-term tourists and students.
